Bay Street Theatre is celebrating their 20th season with an insightful look into the life of Truman Capote. Darrell Hammond plays Capote in the revival of the one man show TRU by Jay Presson Allen and helmed for Bay Street by Matt McGrath. The poignant look into two days of  Truman Capote’s life was first produced on Broadway in 1990 earning Robert Morse rave reviews and a Tony Award for Best Actor. Capote was not only one of Americas most gifted writers, his unique voice became one of  our country’s most outspoken on the celebrity circuit with his genius for self promotion.

TRU takes place soon after an excerpt of Capote’s book “Answered Prayers” was published in Esquire Magazine, prompting many of his society friends to turn against him. “TRU is written with compassion and humor,” says Artistic Director Murphy Davis. “We see Truman confronting his demons, successes, failures, and reflecting on his extraordinary life.” This program is partially funded by the Suffolk County Executive’s Office.
