American songwriter Suzanne Vega graces stage of The John Drew Theater in East Hampton.
The distinctive artist/story teller/singer Suzanne Vega, who emerged as a leading figure of the folk-music revival of the early 1980’s, appeared at Guild Hall in East Hampton on Saturday, September 3. She performed to adoring fans in her cool emotive style accompanied by Gerry Leonard, a Dublin born guitar player, songwriter and musical director, and Doug Yowell, a New York City based drummer, who has been touring with her for the past 15 years. She did old songs as well as new songs from a recently released album and a soon to be released album, which has songs from a new musical Vega wrote about the writer Carson McCuller. The musical will have its world premiere with a four week run at the Alley Theater in Houston, Texas, were Vega will play McCullers.
