SAC opens new exhibition, Heroines of the Abstract Expressionist Era, curated by Christina M. Strassfield on view through December 17, 2023
October 15, 2023: Southampton Arts center, 25 Jobs Lane in Southampton, hosted an opening reception for the new exhibition: Heroines of the Abstract Expressionist Era, a collection of 32 female artists from the Abstract Expressionist era – the first major American art movement. Curated by Chistina M. Strassfield from the renowned collection of Rick Friedman and Cindy Lou Wakefield, the 100 pieces is the first-ever exhibition to feature female abstract artists of the era from New York City to the Hamptons.
Intended as a celebration of women and their place in art history, the exhibition is an opportunity to explore their masterful compositions and discover the stories behind each brushstroke. An invitation from these talented artists to explore their artistic universe .

The film, FIGURES TRANSFORMED, directed by Lana Jokel was screened at 4pm on Saturday prior to the opening reception.
Next week – Joe Landry’s radio play, WAR OF THE WORLDS: THE PANIC BROADCAST. A cautionary tale and a reflection upon the power of media unfolds in this retelling of the October 31,1938 broadcast directed by Michael Disher.
