Rothschild & Sons Opens @ The York Theatre
Celebrities including Rita Moreno, turn out for opening of World premier production of Rothschild & Sons at the York Theatre.

The York Theatre Company, in association with Arnold Mittelman and the National Jewish Theater Foundation, presented the world premiere production of Rothschild & Sons, an intimate one-act reimagining of the nine-time Tony-nominated musical The Rothschilds, inspired by Frederic Morton’s book of the same title.

The new version of the musical, fiercely directed by Jeffrey B Moss, follows the Rothschild’s fight for human rights as they struggle against immensely challenging circumstances. Their resolve to press on, a risky venture, unfolds in an hour fifty minutes without an intermission. The music is by Jerry Bock, with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and a new book by Sherman Yellen. Music supervision and orchestrations are by Joseph Church, with music direction by Jeffrey Klitz and choreography by Denis Jones.
The versatile 11-member cast, the original was 41, stars Robert Cuccioli as Mayer Rothschild, and Glory Crampton in the pivotal role of his wife, Gutele. The remaining cast features Peter Cormican, Jonathan Hadley, David Bryant Johnson, Christine LaDuca, Jamie LaVerdiere, Nicholas Mongiardo-Cooper, Mark Pinter, Curtis Wiley, and Christopher M. Williams, with several playing other roles.

A lively after party was held at Lexicon, 226 East 54th Street, where celebrities attending the opening including Rita Moreno, Laila Robins, Patricia Clarkson, Richard Kind, Robert deRothchild, Jacob deRothchild, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strousse and Jamie deRoy mingled with the cast and everyone involved in the tremendous undertaing.
Rothschilds & Sons is now paying at The York Theatre Company, Saint Peter’s (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue) through November 8, 2015. For tickets and more information
