La MaMa presents CUT + PASTE: A Musical Memoir by actor and celebrity hairdresser Richard Stein, who reveals the tricks of the trade and oh, so much more in his cabaret styled evening replete with refreshments and ample lunacy, some heart-warming tales, some songs, a dance or two and some well timed improvisation, that he hopes will take his audience on a journey through the mirror of life from a man, who has spent his life in front of the looking glass. From London’s East End to New York’s swanky Upper East Side, Richard Stein cuts and pastes a memorable ONE PERFORMANCE ONLY this Sunday May 4th at 5pm, where the theater at La MaMa will become a beauty salon with Richard Stein in charge of the entertainment in what promises to be a lively interactive search for beauty.
This happed so quickly, Richard said he began working on the piece several months ago, and the opportunity to do the show at La MaMa happened because of a brand new client he was doing heard Richard was working with the director Andrei Serban. She was impressed, and then the director called. The rest is part of the history of the piece.
Richard feels "The beauty salon is a form of theatre where transformation has to take place." He said "I started out doing hair in London at age 15 by the time I was 17 I was working on style shoots for Vogue and Harpers Bazaar. I’ve always cut and styled iconic people in the arts, models, actors, writers, etc. I always got my best cues from them, however, I had to develop my own timing."
One Performance Only! Sunday, May 4th at 5pm
"Cut + Paste" A Musical Memoir with Richard Stein returning to La MaMa, where he worked with Andre Serban on "Richard 3" in 2000. He said he was thrilled to be back and plans on entertaining us with many surprises.
