August 31, 2022: If you’re a fan of murder mysteries and believe you’re secretly a supersleuth who could rival the great Sherlock, you still have two opportunities to prove yourself. Live in Theater Production’s Murder in La La Land, a live, interactive Zoom experience, will be presented on Friday September 9 at 8pm and Saturday September 10 at 2pm.

You’ll be in La La Land (a not even thinly disguised Hollywood). It’s 1951, during the height of film noir, and fiction has become reality. This murder has not taken place onscreen but on the streets of La La Land.

Now, you’re no longer a member of the audience but part of security at Summit Pictures, a major studio in La La Land. The mystery you’ll have to solve was created by Carlo D’Amore, who also directs, and has a script by Carlo D’Amore, Sarah Sutliff and Phoebe Dunn.

The victim is Sebastian Black, a talented screenwriter at Summit Pictures, who was found dead on Colorado Street, at the bottom of a hill. He was stumbled upon at 2am by a couple “looking for a place to neck.” These are the facts presented by Barney, the studio president who acts and sounds more like a mafia don, clearly a man not beyond suspicion. Then you’ll meet the other suspects.

Alexandria is the leading lady, a self-absorbed vamp who may have been romantically involved with Sebastian. Chip is the not too bright leading man who was discovered on a construction site. Otto is the German director who holds everyone in great disdain. Leopold is Sebastian’s ambitious assistant writer, a gentleman with a Southern drawl that makes us think of mint juleps and verandas. And Luz is Summit Picture’s secretary… and also Sebastian’s wife.

You’ll ask the suspects all the questions you can think up concerning the fateful night when Sebastian met his end. Who had a motive? Who had the opportunity? Who has an alibi?

The actors are all deliciously extreme in their roles. They are also extremely gifted in improv. When you combine these factors with audience participation, the result is that every show is different, funny and intriguing in its own unique way.
