ACA Galleries hosted on opening reception for the artist MATTHEW DAUB. The exhibition, KEMPTON: WORKS ON PAPER 2009-20011, is a moody evocative study of Kempton, a small rural town in Pennsylvania. Daub’s vastly detailed images are subtle “poetic” visions, which are so realistic that you could quickly take them for photographs. Daub’s studies of the landscapes of Kempton are devoid of human figures giving his meticulously executed watercolors and ink drawings a haunting quality that becomes universal in its commentary on rural America.
The exhibition will be on view at ACA GALLERIES, 529 West 20th Street, 5th floor in New York through April 23, 2011. An Artist Talk and Reception will take place on Saturday, April 2 from 3 to 5 pm, where Matthew will speak at 4 pm. ACA has put together a handsome catalogue with an introduction by Joyce Carol Oates and an essay by Carl Little, which is also available and makes for a beautiful collector’s item available for purchase separately as a memento of the magnificent exhibition.
