Tony Winner Billy Porter to Host Live Out Loud’s 13th Annual Young Trailblazers Gala April 28: Terrence McNally and Ariel Foxman to be Honored
Dazzling Lola, who knows a thing or two about entertaining, will host Live Out Loud’s 13th Annual Young Trailblazers Gala, in the personage of acclaimed Tony, Drama Desk, and Grammy winner Billy Porter, who puts the kink in Cyndi Lauper and Harvey Firestein’s megahit Kinky Boots. The event, which will honor Pulitizer Prize, four-time Tony and three-time Drama Desk winner Terrence McNally and Ariel Foxman, editor at InStyle magazine, takes place at the Times Center/New York Times building, 242 West 41st Street [between Broadway and Eighth Avenue] from 6-9:30 P.M.
"It will be my great pleasure to shine the spotlight on the honorees and the perseverance and potential of the young trailblazers who have found their voices in the world," Porter, a passionate supporter of LGBTQ rights, says. "I celebrate Live Out Loud for its important work and will be proud to stand among them, as well as continue to stand for the power of equality."
Porter, whose solo album has just dropped on Concord Records, will join more than 500 arts, business, theatrical, and political leaders to honor McNally, Foxman, and individuals that have made a positive impact among the LGBT youth community.
There’ll be a silent auction of 100-125 lots, which will be prominently showcased, beverages and cocktails, passed food, and spinning by Sir Ari Gold..
Live Out Loud is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring, nurturing and empowering LGBTQ youth to build successful futures by connecting them with positive role models and affirmative experiences in the LGBTQ community. Proceeds from the gala will help fund educational programming for LGBTQ youth and the annual granting of five $5,000 scholarships to outstanding students.
Gala Chairs are Tim Allen, Eugene Rabinovich and Chuck James. Honorary Chairs include Clodagh, Lea DeLaria, David Hallberg, Richie and Jordan Roth Jackson, Christine Quinn, Daryl Roth, Kim and Lexi Stolz, Michael Urie, and BD Wong.
"The LGBTQ community continues to change public
opinion," points out Leo Preziosi, Jr., founder and executive director of LOL. "We’ve seen dramatic change – most importantly, last year’s overturning of the Defense of Marriage Act and the fact that states are debating the legalization of same-sex marriage.
"We must focus on what’s possible" he continues, "on what the world will one day look like for LGBTQ youth. This is the reason we enable adult members of our community to reach out to the younger generation so they know they are valued and their dreams can be realized."
Among LOL’s many programs is a partnership with international advertising agency Deutsch Inc. called "Gay It Forward", a groundbreaking public service campaign for one of their signature programs, the Homecoming Project, which brings successful LGBTQ adults back to their high schools to share their stories with students.
