Jamie deRoy & friends Celebrate Tony Awards at Birdland
The colorful cabaret series, Jamie deRoy & friends marked the countdown to the Tony Awards with a celebration of Tony Award winning performers and musicals Sunday May 17 at Birdland on West 44th Street. Award winning cabaret performer Jamie deRoy toasted Tony with a roster of major talent on her Variety Show at the famed New York jazz hot-spot. Proceeds from the evening will benefit The Actors Fund’s new program, The Jamie deRoy & friends Cabaret Initiative. The program has been created to assist people working in the cabaret industry who seek help for medical needs and concerns made available through the comprehensive services and programs at The Actors Fund.
From theatre award-winners to legendary performances in award-winning shows—-Jamie’s Broadway stars included: Lena Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch ), Judy Kaye (Phantom of the Opera, Nice Work if You Can Get It), Luba Mason soon to be seen at the Blue Note, Kevin Meaney (Hairspray), Pamela Myers (Company) and Hugh Panaro (The Phantom of the Opera).
Barry Kleinbort directed the evening and Ron Abel served as musical director with Tom Hubbard on bass.
Jamie deRoy & friends has been surprising New York City audiences for the past 24 years. The Cabaret series serves as the basis for deRoy’s award-winning cable television show, which spotlights a wide variety of well-known entertainers and newcomers lighting up the worlds of cabaret, theater, music and comedy.
