Jamie deRoy hosted and performed at Birdland on Sunday May 7, 2017 with a roster of performers notable because they are distinguished for their Tony Awards, nominations or appearances in Tony Award winning musicals. The evening that delved into some interesting factoids on the history of the Tony Awards, named after Antionette Perry the co-founder of the American Theater wing and nick-named Tony, featured performances by Tony winners Chuck Cooper, Paulo Szot, and Rupert Holmes, along with Penny Fuller, Mandy Gonzalez, Doreen Montalvo, and Patti Cohenour. Celebrated pianist Billy Stritch closed out the evening with “Lullaby of Broadway,” from the 1980 Tony Award winning musical 42nd Street, which subsequently won the Tony for Best Musical Revival in 2001.
