New York premiere of I Carry Your Heat by Georgette Kelly at 59E59 Theaters
April 4, 2019: 59E59 Theaters presents the New York premiere of I Carry Your Heart, a moving drama by Georgette Kelly. The Athena Theatre production, directed by Cate Caplin.
Phoebe, a young poet played by Rebi Paganini, is forever living in the shadow of her estranged mother played by, Dey Young. When her mother unexpectedly dies, Phoebe is left with two complicated legacies: donating her mother’s organs and reading her mother’s unpublished confessional journal.
Meanwhile, Tess played by Dana Scurlock, and her partner Lydia, played by Paloma Sarro, receive a late-night phone call, informing them that a donor heart is available for Tess. The transplant establishes a sympathetic link between donor and recipient and the two families form an unlikely connection as they struggle to understand the tragedy in Kelly’s insightful drama.
Nico Piccardo, and John Anthony Torres fill out the strong cast in a timely tale, that looks at the ramifications of organ donation on all the participants, while asking, “ Can a person live on in another?”
There will be a post-show discussion following each performance hosted by LiveOnNY, a federally designated nonprofit organization committed to giving New Yorker’s a second chance at life through the power of organ donation.
The opening night post-show discussion was moderated by Alison McSherry with Neurologist and kidney recipient Philippe Douyon, MD.
