Edna O’Brien’s Haunted premiered as part of the Brits Off-Broadway series at 59E59 Theaters. The play is a captivating tale concerning the disintegration of  long term childless marriage when a charming young women enters their lives..To quote the playwright “In marriage all is perceived, yet so much is withheld.” The accumulation of the unspoken and the ultimate combustible revelations makes for an often compelling evening of theater thanks to the beautiful performances by the accomplished three actors. Brenda Blethyn, a two time Academy Award nominee, is utterly heartbreaking as Mrs. Berry, who works at a doll factory to support her stay at home husband. Naill Buggy is equally wonderful as Mr. Berry and the two have extraordinary chemistry together. Beth Cooke is tragic as Hazel the fragile catalyst, who unwittingly threatens their idyllic life together.  Haunted runs through January 1, 2011. PC
