The Ellen Hermanson Foundation was established in 1997 in loving memory of Ellen Hermanson, a journalist and advocate for early detection of breast cancer. She actively worked to educate readers about the challenges facing breast cancer patients and their families, including, pain management. Focusing on continuing Ellen’s work, the Foundation, which primarily serves breast cancer patients on the East End of Long Island, provides educational outreach to medically under-served communities and psychosocial support to patients and their families.

This year, August 21 2016, will mark the 21st annual 5K race, Ellen’s Run, a grassroots event, which continues to raise money for the local community by supporting the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at Southampton Hospital and funding much of its state of the art technology. In addition, funds raised by Ellen’s Run support Ellen’s Well, a program providing psychosocial support for breast cancer survivors.
