The Executive Director of East Hampton’s Guild Hall, a radiant Ruth Applehof in a short black Elie Tahari cocktail dress, hosted the 2011 Guild Hall Academy of the Arts Lifetime Achievement Awards Dinner at Cipriani on 42nd Street in New York. Mickey Straus, Board of Trustees Chair, and Roy Furman, President of the Academy, made opening remarks after Ruth before turning the evening over to a witty Master of Ceremonies, the acclaimed actor, writer director Bob Balaban. This year’s honorees were Marshall Brickman for literary arts, Elizabeth Peyton for visual arts, Dick Cavett for performing arts, and Lewis B. Cullman for leadership and philanthropic endeavors. The worthy group of honorees all made vibrant yet humble acceptance speeches to mark their induction into the Academy. An interesting note two of the honorees embarked on new marriages last year. Dick Cavett wed Martha Rogers in October and Lewis Cullman took Louise Hirshfeld for his bride in December. Congratulations to all the honorees! PC
