GLUTEN! a madcap comedy explores the paranoia of health at 59E59 Theaters
59E59 Theaters is presenting the Adjusted Realists’ US premiere of GLUTEN! by Stephen Kaliski and directed by Mr. Kaliski with Amanda Holston.

Gluten! follows Newlyweds Copious Fairchild and Hibiscus Van der Waal, who are working diligently to conceive a child. After moving moving into a dazzling new apartment that’s free of all the common killers, including plastic, sunlight, and IKEA, while consulting with the best doctors, and even trying sex the new way to conceive a child, all their efforts seem to fail. When Copious’ estranged hippie mother and her mysterious companion pay an unexpected visit with a radical idea, Copious and Hibiscus are confronted with a dilemma, a decision that might cure their problem, but could kill them in the process. The futuristic comedy is a timely romp that exposes demonic glutens in the less obvious culprits of language, parenthood, sexuality, and God.
The talented cast features Shawna Cormier, Maggie Low, Jeremiah Maestas (Macbeth at Lincoln Center), Roger Manix, and Josh Tobin (4000 Miles at Baltimore Center Stage).
The design team includes Jason Sherwood (set design), Jessica Greenberg (lighting design), William Mellette (costume design) and Matt Sherwin (sound design/original music). The production stage manager is Haejin Han.
Gluten! Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues). Tickets are $18 ($12.60 for 59E59 Members). To purchase tickets, call Ticket Central at (212) 279-4200 or go to www.59e59.org.
