Scott Wittman directs Pulitzer Prize & Tony Award winning play, The Subject Was Roses, launching Bay Street Theater’s Mainstage 2024 Summer season.

June 3, 2024: Theater legend Scott Wittman, a renowned Broadway director and composer, has staged a lovely production of Frank D. Gilroy’s Pulitzer Prize winning play for Bay Street Theater. The powerful drama opened on Saturday evening making the theater in Sag Harbor the place to be in the Hamptons. Focusing on a family in the Bronx when their only son returns home from WWII, the  seemingly quiet story boils beneath the surface with simmering emotions. The three actors, John Slattery, Talia Balsam, and Harry Slattery, portraying the family  are actually a real-life father, mother, and son, which adds a fascinating dynamic to the evening. The outstanding design elements, a standard at Bay Street, enhance the intimacy of the suffocating setting. John Slattery is best known for his role in the AMC drama Mad Men.
