Annie Opens @ The Palace

Lilla Crawford

November 15, 2012: In these days just after the storm Sandy what New Yorker couldn’t use a dose of optimism? Well, an entertaining new production of the feel good family musical Annie opened at the Palace Theater last night. Drawn from Harold Gray’s classic comic strip, the beloved musical debuted on Broadway in 1977 winning 7 Tony Awards. Directed by James Lapine the new Annie delivers a boost to your spirits with a few dark moments as well as some flashy choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler. Still the heart and soul of the show remain in the moving book by Thomas Meehan and the fabulous songs by Charles Strouse (music) and Martin Charnin (lyrics). The show is filled with warm upbeat music that will keep you smiling long after the curtain has come down. PC
