Bay Street Theater presented David Mamet’s silly courtroom farce Romance as the final play of the Mainstage summer season. Director Lisa Peterson puts an accomplished cast through their paces with a no holds barred bold physical style necessary to keep the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright’s rather slight mockery of our judicial system in hilarious form. The gifted ensemble headed by Richard Kind, as the over medicated off the wall Judge presiding over the evening, is a standout. The cast working wonderfully together includes Chris Bauer (the prosecutor), Matt McGrath (his boyfriend), Joey Slotnick (the defendant), Reg Rogers (his self righteous attorney), Joe Pallister (a doctor) and an unrecognizable Darrel Hammond (the bailiff). They spew insults in a nonstop animated style that is great fun to witness, while never letting evening falter for a moment. The production team deserves kudos for a marvelously inventive design making this ae perfect summer fare to keep you smiling ear to ear. PC
Tickets are available at the Box Office at 631-725-9500 or online at baystreet.org. A two for 1 ticket offer is available for previews on August 10 -13 and for all matinees based on availability. The theatre is located on the Long Wharf in Sag Harbor, NY on the corner of Bay and Main Streets.
