Outer Critics Circle Awards for the 2016-2017 season were presented at Sardi’s.
May 25, 2017: Danny Burstein, Katie Finneran, and Christopher Fitzgerald presented the Outer Critics Circle Awards to the winners of the 67th Annual Awards at a dinner hosted by President Simon Saltzman at the legendary Sardi’s across form Shubert Alley in Times Square.

The season’s darling, Bette Midler winner of Outstanding Actress in a Musical for Hello Dolly!, dashed in wearing a festive turban to accept her award joining her director Jerry Zaks, her choreographer Warren Carlyle, winner for Outstanding Choreography, and her orchestrator Larry Hochman, winner for Outstanding Orchestrations, along with Gavin Creel, one of her co-stars and winner of Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical. The icon had the packed room in stitches with her raucous acceptance speech and made a hasty exit immediately afterwards. Hello Dolly! was also named Outstanding Revival of a Musical winning a total of 5 awards.


Come From Away was named Outstanding New Broadway Musical and was honored for Outstanding Book of a Musical by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, Outstanding Direction of a Musical by Christopher Ashley, Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical going to Jenn Colella, and Outstanding Sound Design by Gareth Owen.


The Band’s Visit, which will be moving to Broadway next season was named Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical and composer David Yazbek was honored for Outstanding New Score: Music and Lyrics on Broadway or Off-Broadway.

Other winners not pictured or mentioned were Andy Karl, Outstanding Actor in a Musical, Kevin Kline, Outstanding Actor in a play, a last-minute cancelation, Danny DeVito, Outstanding Featured Actor in a play, who was away filming and sent a gracious acceptance speech. Simon McBurney was honored for Outstanding Solo Performance.
