t’s summer and things are hot in more ways than one in Atlantic City. The waters of the Atlantic are warm and gleaming, the Boardwalk’s a hopping, and salt water taffy’s being pulled. Friday night Revel Casino and Resort’s Summer of Revelation series presents Hollywood Records artist ZZ Ward in a free concert and a Fireworks by Grucci spectacular.

Friday night Revel Casino and Resort’s Summer of Revelation series presents Hollywood Records artist ZZ Ward in a free concert and a Fireworks by Grucci spectacular.

Ward, a Pennsylvania native, jumped on the scene last year with her "swampy blues and hip-hop grit" exzuding a powerful, soulful voice. Her mini-album Criminal garnered attention and led to her debut album Til the Casket Drops. She sustained weeks in the Top 10 with her self-penned chart hit and music video "Put the Gun Down." Her latest release is a seven-inch vinyl that includes "Everybody Wants To Be Famous" and her cover of Son House’s "Grinnin’ in Your Face."

Because of showtimes, it’s going to be a tough decision: Ward or Fireworks by Grucci, "America’s First Family of Fireworks."

ZZ Ward’s concert begins at 8:30 P.M. in the Comedy Social Club. It’s free [general admission], but with a catch: tickets are required via TicketMaster.com, where service charges will apply.

The Grucci spectacular is at 9:30 P.M. Chief pyrtechnician Tom Guida guarantees a spectacular show "bursting over the Atlantic and the Boardwalk and reflected in the towering glass facade of the Revel." It takes six technicians to electronically fire by computer the 640 firing cues consisting of powerful shells from the U.S. and imported from around the world.

Revel has five indoor and outdoor pools, theSky Garden (114 feet above the Atlantic), lounge, comedy club, Exhale Bask spa, 5,000-seat Ovation Hall, and 14 restaurants, including Sky Bar for breakfast, cocktails by the pool, and light fare and Robert Wiedmaier’s Mussel Bar and Grille, with its mussel-shell floor and movie soundstage atmosphere.

There’ll be more Grucci fireworks over the beach on Friday, August 2. For Revel hotel and dining reservations and special heavily-discounted "Escape Packages," visit www.RevelResorts.com
