New York May 4, 2013: ACA Galleries at 529 West 20th Street in the Chelsea Gallery district hosted the opening reception for TEXTURES: The Written Word in Contemporary Art, which showcases the work of artists who have incorporated written text as part of their aesthetics, making a comment on their politics and their values. Written text has been present in art dating back to the ancient Egyptian tombs, and artists have used text to draw us into their artwork. Curator Mikaela Sardo Lamarche has shaped an exhibition which proves that the written word can be an important organic element and even a human touchstone. She has put together an extraordinary collection of courageous and adventurous artists to demonstrate this point of view. They include Romare Bearden, Robert Colescott, Grace Hartigan, Elaine de Kooning, Aminah Robinson, Faith Ringgold, Flo Oy Wong and others.
TEXTURES: The Written Word in Contemporary Art will be on view at ACA Galleries, 529 West 20th Street 5th floor in New York through June 15, 2013. For more information call 212-206-8080 or online at firstname.lastname@example.org
