April 4 2020: Tony Award and two-time Drama Desk nominee and all-round nice guy Nick Cordero is unconscious in an unnamed hospital, according to reports from his wife via Entertainment Tonight and a post on Instagram. “My husband needs your prayers,” notes wife, Amanda Kloots, on Instagram. “He’s fighting like a champ.”

“Nick has been sick for awhile with what we were told was pneumonia,” she reports. “His health is deteriorating. We are waiting to hear if this is COVID 19. He’s in the ICU and unconscious so his body can get enough oxygen. Things have gone from bad to worse, but “we are trying to stay positive and strong knowing that he is getting the best care. He isn’t allowed to eat or drink. He’s very weak and having a hard time breathing.”

Klotts revealed that she’s unable to stay by Cordero’s side “during this harrowing time. I’m not allowed to visit and can do nothing to help. I miss him terribly.” Klotts ended her post with “a heartfelt thanks to everyone – all angels, who has been helping so far.”  She shared that she and their son, Elvis are fine.

The tall, lanky Cordero is known for Rock of Ages, Cheech, the ‘20s thug who turns out to be a brilliant playwright in Bullets Over Broadways, playing Earl during 2016 in Waitress, and as Sonny in A Bronx Tale.

Kloots, now a personal trainer, is a former Radio City Rockette. She performed in Bullets, the 2011 Follies revival, Young Frankenstein, and Good Vibrations; as well as the Young Frankenstein, Spamalot, and 42nd Street (2002) tours.
