BREAKING NEWS: Behar is returning to The View as part of a shake up for the 19th season, reportetedly at Barbara Walters request. When we spoke on Friday she only hinted they had asked her back, but that they didn’t offer what she wanted. Well I guess things have changed. She will be one the show’s rotating co-hosts. And the live taping that will now happen five days a week will give an added jolt of energy

The always outspoken TV Star Joy Behar is performing her one women show ME MY MOUTH AND I at Guild Hall on Saturday and Sunday August 29 &30 at 8pm.

Joy Behar, Patrick Christiano

I caught up with the candid comedian by phone at her home in East Hampton. Joy Behar is probably best known her for political and social commentary as one of the original co-hosts of THE VIEW for 16 seasons from 1997 until 2011, sitting right up there Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg and the others. The popular television chat show cemented her reputation for her forthright opinions, which she continues to nurture with an entertaining brash style. When I called her at around 11 am on a Friday (the appointed time) she doesn’t disappoint and is indeed a refreshing adrenaline rush!

She is getting ready for the East Hampton Star, the local newspaper, is paying her a visit. Probably because of her upcoming performance at Guild Hall, but she says She’s not sure what to expect?”

Full of energy and upbeat, she is easy to chat with, and answers all my questions with a grounded wisdom and wit. She remembers she thought she might want to be an actress. At a young age members of her family always had her performing and entertaining them. She describes becoming addicted to performing for her elderly relatives as like being “live prozac to them and addicting,” the performing, which she kept hidden until later, because she says she suffered from “lack of confidence,” and remembers a FAILED audition for Saturday Night Live. On taking an acting workshop at HB Studio around the age of 36 she commented, “I quickly realize I wasn’t going to be an actress.” I knew was funny and entertaining!

On the phone she is her candid self dishing on life and how things went. On Bill O’Reilly she said “I was propelled from my chair” on the view that day when she and Whoopi walked off the set with the cameras rolling. With Joy what you see is what you get!

IIn ME MY MOUTH & I Joy Behar takes audiences on a journey from her rollicking childhood in Brooklyn to center stage as one of America’s premier talk show hosts and comediennes. About the play Behar notes, “This is a good time to take stock of my shenanigans.”
