Prominent cabaret performer and talk show host Jamie deRoy kicked off the 21st Season of her multi MAC award winning variety show, Jamie deRoy and Friends, on July 27, 2011 at the Metropolitan Room with a delightfully eclectic mix of marvelous performers. The amusingly heartfelt evening hosted by the always adorable Jamie was a breath of fresh air and the weather even cooled off a bit for the occasion. Jamie’s father came in for the show and was thrilled to discover there was a two drink minimum, one more than his daily allowance.
First up was the two time MAC award winning composer/performer Mary Liz McNamara, who was utterly enchanting singing her award winning songs. She was followed by the talented West End cabaret singer Andrew Halliday, who delivered a funny rendition of a Chet Baker classic recoded by Frank Sinatra in the 1940’s, “Everything Happens To Me.” He brought out one of his best friends Helen Anker, a West End and Broadway actress/singer. Her version of “IDon’t Want to Show off Anymore” was simply wonderful.
Then Sean Harkness, a MAC award winning guitarist, who will perform at the Iridium on September 6, demonstrated his amazing skill on guitar performing his own compositions.
The Emmy Award winning comedian Kevin Meany practically stopped the show next. He was a non-stop laugh out loud riot – hysterical indeed.
Jamie in especially outstanding voice closed out the evening with her witty signature song “Jews Don’t Camp” featured on her new CD. Be sure to catch Jamie deRoy and Friends on cable TV every other Sunday at 7:30 pm on Time Warner 56, RCN 83, and Verizon Fios 34.
