It’s that time of year: Spring’s here, or will be soon; the end of another blockbuster theater season is roaring to a close; the Drama Desk and Tony Awards are already the buzz; and that other never-miss event: Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Easter Bonnet Competition is right around the corner. The 29th edition of this always eagerly-looked-forward-to two-day spectacular is April 20 4:30 P.M., and April 21 at 2 P.M.

The 2015 edition will again take place at the Minskoff Theatre, home of Disney’s long- running blockbuster The Lion King.

The Easter Bonnet Competition, which benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS national programs, features companies of Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring productions doing skits [often with celebrity guest stars], songs, comedy, and dance, as well as elaborately-designed bonnets created especially for the event. The latter vie for prizes from a celebrity panel of judges.

The show ends a six-week period of intensive fundraising by dozens of Broadway, Off-Broadway and touring companies. Celebrity presenters, special guests, and segment hosts will soon be announced.

The semi-annual six-week Bucket Brigade fundraising drive began March 6 with volunteers and cast members meeting exiting audiences with their BC/EFA red buckets for donations.

The fundraising drive continues through Sunday, April 19 and comes to a soaring climax on April 21with certificates presented by a quartet of Broadway stars Best Bonnet Design, Top Fundraiser, and Best Presentation.
