BroadwayCon Panels Feted
January 26, 2018: The Drama Desk hosted a reception for critics on the BroadwayCon panels “Being a Critic of Color,” organized by Drama Desk member Jose Solis, and “Theater Critiquing: A Woman’s Touch,” organized by Drama Desk member Linda Armstrong.
The buffet event at The Rail Line Cafe, 400 West 23rd Street in Chelsea ,is conveniently located not too far from the West Side Javits Center, where BroadwayCon is taking place and the theater district.
Linda’s panel, “Theater Critiquing: A Woman’s Touch,” will take place on Sunday, January 28, 12 to 12:50 pm, in the Renee Harris Room of the Javits Center. Panelists, in addition to Linda (who will moderate) are Audrey J. Bernard and Drama Desk members Elysa Gardner, Martha Wade Steketee, and Nicole Serratore. Jose’s panel, “Being a Critic of Color,” is scheduled from 4 to 4:50 p.m. on Saturday, January 27 in the Javits Center’s Willa Kim Room. Jose is hosting the following panelists: Wei-Huan Chen, an award-winning theater critic for the Houston Chronicle, who also covers classical music and opera, Karen D’Souza, theater and features writer on the San Jose Mercury News, Naveen Kumar, writer and editor who specializes in entertainment, lifestyle, sex and relationship topics, Janice C. Simpson, co-host of Theater Talk, the Emmy winning public television series, and Kelundra Smith, freelance critic, journalist, and editor who covers theater, visual arts, dance, and diversity in the arts.
