Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor NY launched their 2014 MAINSTAGE SEASON by presenting the World Premiere of CONVICTION, a haunting tale by Carey Crim directed by Scott Schwartz, Bay Street Theatre’s new Artistic Director.

CONVICTION
tells the story of the family of Tom Hodges (Garret Dillahunt), a confident and caring teacher adored by students and admired by parents, a great guy with all the answers and the perfect father and husband. However, when a student playing Juliet in the current production of "Romeo and Juliet," which he is directing accuses him of sexual misconduct, his happy suburban existence is shockingly disrupted, affecting not only his teenage son Nick (Daniel Burns), but his devoted loving relationship with his wife Leigh (Sarah Paulson), along with their longtime friendship with neighbors Bruce and Jayne Wagner (Brian Hutchison and Elizabeth Reaser). When the seeds of mistrust are planted, Tom’s inner circle of friends spiral out of control in their individual and collective efforts to come to grips not only with the scandalous situation, but also Tom’s ultimate trial, conviction and incarceration, after being found guilty by a jury of his pears.

Played out in two acts, the first introduces the characters and the accusation, while the second begins on the day of Tom’s homecoming form prison after serving this term. The family drama looks beneath the surface of the happy façade of Tom’s world to reveal a nightmare tense with uncertainty, where no one is fully convinced of Tom’s innocence. The well written drama delves into their struggle with the delicate question of trust in the face of Tom’s conviction, examining the choices his friends and family have when the darkness of uncertainty crosses their path with a swath of destruction.

The cast includes Garret Dillahunt ("Raising Hope," "12 Years a Slave") as Tom; Sarah Paulson ("American Horror Story," "12 Years a Slave") as his wife Leigh; Elizabeth Reaser ("Twilight" films, Second Stage’s revival of "How I Learned to Drive") as their friend Jayne; Brian Hutchison ("Man and Boy," "Looped") as her husband Bruce; and Daniel Burns ("Twelfth Night", "Shipwrecked!") as Tom and Leigh’s son Nicholas.
