Gurney’s Montauk New Year’s Eve 2020

“The Roaring 20’s” was the theme for New Year’s Eve at Gurney’s in Montauk.

January 1, 2020: Guests at Gurney’s, on the brink of the Atlantic Ocean in Montauk, stepped back in time to ring in the New Year “Roaring 20’s” style and danced to live 20’s inspired jazz and a DJ Vikas. The weekend was full of programming from champagne sabering classes to fitness pop-ups, and Gurney’s annual New Year’s Day Polar Plunge. Also available was a delectable five course dinner at Scarpetta Beach, Gurney’s amazing 5-star restaurant overlooking the ocean. There were two separate dinner seatings before the ball dropped in Times Square at midnight.

Guests toasted the season and rediscovered the gardens at this special time of the year.

November 30, 2019: LONGHOUSE, 133 Hands Creek Road in East Hampton, hosted a festive gathering with holiday music. Guests toasted the holiday season with hot apple cider rum toddy’s, Kaluah & coffee, and hot chocolate while touring the gardens and mingling with neighbors. Many people left personal wishes on the Yoko Ono Wish Tree, near the entrance to LONGHOUSE, when they departed.

Literature Live @ Bay Street

November 17, 2019: Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor is presenting a searing production of Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun, directed by Lydia Fort. Literature live, now in its 11th season at Bay Street Theater, is staging the classic, which is celebrating the sixtieth anniversary of the play’s first production on Broadway.  Literature Live brings classic works to middle and high school students for free. Since the program began 11 years ago over 30,000 students have seen live theater at Bay Street, many for the first time.

The 2019 festival was dedicated to Michael Lynne, a HIFF Board Member for almost two decades, and Mark Urman a member of HIFF’s Advisory Board for eleven years, both of whom passed away earlier this year.

(ARF) announced today that its annual “Stroll to the Sea” Dog Walk presented by Chaser and The Corcoran Group will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 9 AM to 12 PM. August 25, 2019: Circus of Books, directed by Rachel Mason, the final film in the HIFF SummerDocs Series, screened at Guild Hall in East Hampton on Saturday evening.  Afterwards, Alec Baldwin (HIFF Co-Chair) and David Nugent (HIFF Artistic Director) led a conversation with the film’s director Rachel Mason and her mother, Karen Mason, who is a central focus of the film. The screening at Guild Hall was preceded by a reception at the home of Charles and Mary Brock.

August 11, 2019: On Saturday East Hampton’s Library hosted their 15th annual Authors Night to benefit the Library’s essential programs and services throughout the coming year. Press arrived around 4:30 and the authors started trickling in shorty after for a brief meet and greet with the press, before heading off to their assigned spots and their respective dinners afterwards. Honorary Founding Chair, Alec Baldwin, was one of the first to arrive along with Honorary Co-Chairs, Candace Bushnell, Douglas Brinkley, Dr. Ruth Westheimer, Robert A. Caro, Rosanne Cash, and Bridget Moynahan.

August 4, 2019: Sarna Lapine’s delightful staging of Irving Berlin’s beloved musical, Annie Get Your Gun, opened last night at Bay Street Theater, centered by a luminous Alexandra Socha as Annie. Every element of this streamlined production, infused with Blue Grass melodies, shines beautifully, lighting up the intimate stage in Sag Harbor with rollicking good fun. To hear these classics songs like, “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “Anything You Can Do,” and “They Say It’s Wonderful,” sung with a Blue Grass Band that sits elevated at the back of the stage is simply wonderful and a unique surprise.
